BANTAM AE'S WIN HALIBURTON SILVER STICK

The Caledonia Thunder Bantam AE travelled to Haliburton the weekend of December 9 to compete in the Regional Silver Stick tournament and came away with the Championship with a thrilling 3-2 overtime win over the Lindsay Muskies.
In round robin play, the Thunder faced off against the Napanee Stars, the Lincoln Blades and the Parry Sound Shamrocks. Game one saw the Thunder overcome several obstacles and come away with a 3 - 3 tie. In game two and three, the Thunder dominated the Blades and Shamrocks and defeated those teams by scores of 2-0 and 4-0 respectively. The Thunder ended round robin play in second place in A pool and would face the host Haliburton Storm in the semi-finals. The semi-final was a back and forth affair with the game a scoreless tie after two periods. The Thunder picked up the pace in the third, scored twice and moved onto the final with a 2-0 victory.
Facing the Muskies in the final, the Thunder fell behind 2-0 with a little more than half the game to go. The Thunder pulled within one goal before the end of the period and with about five minutes left in the game, tied it up to send it into overtime. Overtime would start with a five minute, three on three battle, but the Thunder didn't want to see this go too long and about 2 minutes in, finished off the Muskies to take the Championship.
The Bantam AE Thunder will now travel to Pelham to compete in the International Silver Stick finals from January 5 - 8, 2012.
Way to go boys, great job!
